Read 2 Kings 9
Focus on verse 20
When Jehu was anointed king of Israel, he wasted no time in executing the word of the Lord that had been spoken to him by God’s prophets. Within hours of his anointing, he had removed from the throne not just Joram king of Israel, but also Ahaziah king of Judah, and Jezebel the Queen mother who was undoubtedly the most wicked of the three. I particularly enjoy the description of the watchman in verse 20: “And the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously.” Apparently this watchman had seen Jehu drive a chariot before, and it would seem that Jehu was no ordinary charioteer. It certainly appears that Jehu was not the kind of man to sit around and wait for something to happen. Rather he was a man of action. One who didn’t waste any time in getting things done once he go the idea that he knew what it was that needed doing. So next time you see someone driving furiously…perhaps we should give them the benefit of the doubt that they have important business to accomplish? Either that, or give them the nickname “Jehu”.
