Aways Ask

Read 2 Kings 20

Focus on verses 2-6

The Lord tells Hezekiah through Isaiah that he will die from his sickness… Hezekiah pleads with the Lord and the Lord changes his mind… or does He? For Hezekiah this was another test. Would he accept the word of the Lord and prepare to die? Or would he petition God to grant him and extension? From the perspective of the Lord, one might assume that God knew what Hezekiah’s decision would be, and that he would petition for an extension, so did God really change His mind, or did He simple act according to what He foreknew would happen?

The most critical lesson here for us today is that it never hurts to ask, even to plead with the Lord for something or someone. Even if the Lord has made it clear what His intentions are, it seems that there are times when He desires us to petition Him to change his plan. Whether this is actually a change for Him or not is immaterial from our perspective as what is important is that we seek His face and petition Him as a child would beseech his or her earthly father for something they desire.
