Read 2 Chronicles 15

Focus verse 2

One of the shorter words in the English language is the word “if”, yet few words are as important. The message to Asa is “The Lord is with you while you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.” The most critical word in this sentence is the word “if”. The word “if” presents us with choices. Typically there is a right choice and a wrong choice each of which have consequences. Asa made the right choice to return to lead the people of Judah back to the Lord from the worship of idols.

We all are given this choice at some point in our lives…will we choose to seek God, or will we choose to forsake Him. It is not that the Lord does not care which choice we make, but He does give us the freedom to choose just as he did for King Asa. The consequences of our choice are also similar. If we choose to seek God He will allow us to find Him, If we choose to reject Him he will not deprive us of that choice nor the consequences that accompany it.
