Read Psalm 150

Focus on verse 6

As natural as…breathing. Or so the saying goes. Few things are truly as natural as breathing because breathing is one of the things that we all do constantly, yet we rarely think about the process until we start having difficulty with it. It is typically only when our breathing becomes difficult that we ever really focus on the mechanics of it. If we stop breathing all together it very quickly becomes a critical situation.

When we say something is as natural as breathing, we typically are attempting to describe a process that we have mastered to the degree where we no longer have to cognitively process every little step in what might be a complicated procedure. A person who has mastered a musical instrument no longer has to think about activating every muscle that is involved in playing that instrument. They simply visualize the sound they want to produce, and the rest is “as natural as breathing”…it just happens.

In the last psalm of the book of Psalms, the writer concludes the book with “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord” (v. 6). Apparently, when we have a right perspective of God and life and our relationship with God, praising Him should come as natural as breathing.
