Cycle..

Read Ezekibicycleel 27

Focus on verse 33-34

A bicycle has two wheels that go round and round…it is what the word means.

  • ”bi” from the Latin, meaning twice,
  • “cycle” meaning any complete round or series of occurrences that repeats or is repeated.

A bicycle has two wheels (bi) that go round repeatedly (cycle). My apologies for the redundancy, particularly if you already knew this, but it does lead to a point.

In today’s reading Ezekiel is instructed by God to write a lament for the city-state of Trye, which at the peak of its existence was a glorious and influential center of wealth and trade in Mediterranean Sea and it’s surrounding nations. At that time few would have imagined that the day would come when all that would be left of Tyre would be a flat rock where fishermen would spread their nets.

I have written previously of how history tends to reveal the cycles that humanity continues to repeat. Nations and empires rise to power only to crumble and disappear as the next one takes the place of the previous. What is incredulous to me is that despite this obvious pattern in history, each new generation of people seems to be convinced that the current ruling empire will never end, yet it always does.

With this in mind it would seem prudent to consider carefully where we currently might be at in the cycle. America has been a major ruling empire for the past 100 years or better. She is well into her second century as a nation. History would indicate that most empires last around 200 years or less, making me wonder if we are about due for a reset of some kind.

Current political and cultural trends tend to be validating these suspicions. This is not to suggest that I am anti-American, or in any way hoping that our nation collapses. Quite the opposite is true. I hope an pray that I am wrong in this assessment and that something will come about that will prolong America’s season of prosperity and world leadership.

It is my assessment that the only thing that might prolong the peace and prosperity that we currently experience is a nation-wide revival that results in the hearts of people being broken in repentance before God for abandoning Him as the God in whom we trust. Apart from that it would seem we may find America scheduled to become the next entry in the history books of nations that once were great.

About Dented-Knight

A knight with polished, shining, perfect armor is typically one with no battle experience. It is the knight in dented armor that knows what it costs to win.
