Read Acts 4
Focus on verse 11-12
This is a very exclusive statement! If this statement is true, then the idea that all religions are essentially the same, or that all paths ultimately lead to God is not true. If this statement is true, then all other religions fall short of reconciling us to God.
It is interesting to me that when one does a study of the plethora of world religions, cults and sects available to a discriminating seeker these days, there are ultimately really only two different ways to approach God. Most religions teach that if we do the right things the right way consistently enough we will finally find that connection with God that we seek. Only one religion teaches that we can’t do enough, and that the key is we don’t have to because its not about what we do, but about what God has done for us. Most religions teach that we must try our best to reach up to connect with God. Only one faith system teaches that God reached down to us because He knew we could never reach up to Him. That one religion is Christianity. What often confuses us is that there are people and organizations that call themselves “Christian” who teach the “we have to reach up to God theory” and by doing so really are not teaching what the Bible teaches about following Jesus. People who are truly Christian follow Christ, and believe that He is the only name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.
It is very politically incorrect because it declares all other religions to be false, like trying to find one’s way to the Gulf of Mexico on a freshwater canal. You might be in a boat – you might be traveling through water – you might even find yourself on a lake – but you will never ever get to the Gulf, because freshwater canals don’t take you there. Similarly, if you believe something other than what the Bible teaches about Jesus being the only way to God – you might be a nice person – you might have high moral standards – you might be very devoted to practicing your religion – but until you choose to believe that Jesus Christ is who He claimed to be, and did what the Bible claims He did, you are no closer to God than a person who worships a tree or a stone or the devil himself. If you find this offensive, please remember that in a culture where people are comfortable with deception, truth often becomes the greatest offense.
