Too Much!

Read Exodus 36
Focus on verse 5-72FD980B2-3A3F-455D-A395-5B5D503F1CB6-17052-00003AF59A81E8F6

Can you imagine a church or non-profit organization instructing it’s member to stop giving because we have more than we need!? I can’t say that I have heard of that happening in my lifetime… except perhaps occasionally in my dreams, but when I awake the reverse is most often true… we are behind budget, we have to cut expenses somehow, etc etc.
I today’s reading we find Moses in this most unlikely position… he had to tell the people to stop brings offerings!

And they received from Moses all the contribution that the people of Israel had brought for doing the work on the sanctuary. They still kept bringing him freewill offerings every morning, so that all the craftsmen who were doing every sort of task on the sanctuary came, each from the task that he was doing, and said to Moses, “The people bring much more than enough for doing the work that the Lord has commanded us to do.” So Moses gave command, and word was proclaimed throughout the camp, “Let no man or woman do anything more for the contribution for the sanctuary.” So the people were restrained from bringing, for the material they had was sufficient to do all the work, and more. (v. 3b-7)

This is the kind of thing most non-profit leaders only dream about! The text tells us the people had to be restrained, from bringing offerings for the material they had brought was already sufficient to do ALL the work, AND MORE!” It makes me wonder it there were some of the people who may have been disappointed that their offering was not needed!
